Thanks to the Community Monuments Fund and Kerry County Council, two phases of conservation works were undertaken on the ruins of Castleisland Castle. Localised rebuilding and stabilisation works were completed on the Turret (2022) and the SW Flanking Tower (2023). Further repairs are necessary to ensure the longevity of the structures into the future. We hope that one day these essential works will take place.
Overall, in respect of the conservation works conducted to date, I wish to express sincere thanks to the local landowners, the county archaeologist at Kerry County Council, as well as the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, who are responsible for the Community Monuments Fund.
